Smashbird — Savannah

Status: Targeting a mid-July opening.

What to expect: New fast-casual burger concept from the owners behind several Savannah restaurants. The restaurant will be mostly grab-and-go, with self-service kiosks, QR-code ordering and delivery integration through DoorDash and Uber Eats.

Menu highlights: Thin, crispy smashburgers with vegetables grilled into the patty, hand-breaded chicken tenders, fresh wings and thin seasoned shoestring fries.

Brand style: Smashbird is built around a casual, sauce-heavy, “drippy and messy” experience with the tagline “it ain’t that serious.”

Space details: The dining room will include bench-style seating and about seven small tables for quick dine-in visits.

Honey’s Po’boys and Gumbo — Marietta

Status: Targeting an August opening, depending on construction, permitting and inspections.

What to expect: Louisiana-inspired restaurant from siblings Angela Randolph and Lionel Thomas, who are opening a brick-and-mortar after more than 20 years in catering. The restaurant will focus mostly on takeout, with about 10 to 12 seats for dine-in guests.

Menu highlights: Louisiana po’boys, gumbo, other Louisiana-style dishes and New Orleans-style snowballs.

Family story: The restaurant honors Randolph and Thomas’ late mother, whose nickname was Honey and who dreamed of opening a restaurant. Their 82-year-old uncle, Isaiah Thomas, is helping with the buildout.

More to know: The owners plan to continue their catering and concessions work, including contracts at Georgia World Congress Center, Georgia International Convention Center and Gateway Center Arena.

What to expect: Heritage Supper Club is the latest concept from Bellevue Hospitality and chef Demetrius Brown. What began as a pop-up tasting menu centered on Caribbean cuisine is expanding into a restaurant focused on food across the African diaspora.

Menu highlights: Seven- to 10-course tasting menu ending with an ice cream dessert bar. A bar section will also serve a la carte dishes.

Dish highlights: Brown described Waakye, a West African stew with braised oxtail, beef cheek, kale and collards. On the dessert side, guests can expect a Trinidadian fruit cake with cassava, dried fruit and rum, served with curry ice cream.

Space details: About 60 seats across the dining room and bar.
