Intellectual Disability Focused Inclusion Cafe Opening in Tallahassee
A lunch restaurant for special needs inclusion is opening later this year.
A new cafe and lunch restaurant is opening in Tallahassee later this year, founder Bill Schack told FFBW. Inclusion Cafe's vision is to provide job opportunities and training for Tallahassee community members with intellectual disabilities.
Schack reported to FFBW that the cafe will be run entirely by individuals with special needs. This will give the employees a chance for independence, learning, and earning money.
Additionally, they will host workshops in the evenings that will equip intellectually disabled folks in Tallahassee with hospitality job skills. This will be called Inclusion Cafe Academy. Schack said that he hopes to help train 40-50 or more people each year. This will give them skills to be impactful members of other restaurant teams in Tallahassee.
According to a report from the Tallahassee Democrat, Schack is embarking on this mission via inspiration from his son, Dylan, who has autism.
Currently, they have a building at: 1711 S Monroe St, Tallahassee, FL 32301. Schack reports that it is still a shell, and that they have a lot of progress to make before opening. Schack is hoping to be operational by August. In the meantime, Schack is seeking to find a commercial kitchen space to host the Inclusion Cafe Academy before August.
They will serve a lunch menu with items like: burgers, grilled cheese, soups, salads and more.
