Rose’s Coffee & Cones to Open in Ybor City

TAMPA, FL — Rose's Coffee & Cones is preparing to open soon at 2206 E. 7th Ave., Tampa, FL 33605 in historic Ybor City. Owner Birgul Lemmon told Business Debut the shop is waiting on a final state inspection and is targeting an opening in about two weeks.

The coffee and ice cream shop is dedicated to Lemmon’s mother, Remzy, who had long dreamed of opening a place of her own, Lemmon told Business Debut.

What to Expect

Rose's Coffee & Cones will operate from a small historic cottage-style building that dates back to the 1900s, Lemmon told Business Debut. The space is about 900 square feet and will seat about 15 to 18 guests inside, with three tables and lounge-style seating.

Lemmon said the goal is to create a home-like setting where guests can sit with coffee, read, work on a laptop or take a break from the surrounding Ybor City nightlife. She is also working toward outdoor seating with benches, bistro tables and lighting.

The menu will focus on paninis, specialty coffees, island drinks, Turkish ice cream and gelato, Lemmon told Business Debut. She said the paninis are intended to serve guests looking for something convenient and reasonably priced after visiting the area’s restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

Rose's Coffee & Cones will also serve Turkish ice cream, which Lemmon said is rare in Tampa, along with Italian gelato. She said the shop will bring in Turkish ice cream from a specialty shop in Miami and offer a broad range of flavors.

Juju and Maher, friends of Lemmon who previously owned a gelato cafeteria, will help operate the shop on days Lemmon is working at Sarasota Hospital.

Lemmon also credited her husband, Terry, for supporting the project and helping with much of the physical work needed to prepare the space.

Opening Timeline

Rose's Coffee & Cones is targeting an opening in about two weeks, pending state inspection, Lemmon told Business Debut.

Lemmon said the buildout took longer than expected because the historic building required electrical upgrades to support the shop’s equipment.

Hours

Rose's Coffee & Cones plans to open at 7:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.

The shop plans to close at 11 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 9 p.m. Sunday. Thursday through Saturday hours are still being finalized, with Lemmon considering a closing time between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m. to serve the Ybor City nightlife crowd.
