Cuya Cafe & Cocina Reopening with Patio Expansion in Raleigh

The updated concept introduces morning service, espresso drinks, and a larger patio with year-round seating.

RALEIGH, NC — Cuya Cafe & Cocina is preparing to reopen with a new patio design and expanded cafe concept at 413 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27603, owner Charlie Ibarra told Business Debut. The Glenwood South restaurant has been closed for renovations and is targeting a reopening the week of May 5.

What to Expect

The most significant update is a full patio remodel, featuring a retractable pergola roof and added climate control to allow for year-round use. Ibarra said the upgraded patio will nearly double the restaurant’s seating capacity, adding space for an additional 40 to 45 guests.

Inside, guests can expect updated furnishings along with the introduction of a morning cafe concept. The business will operate as Cuya Cafe & Cocina, adding daytime service to its existing dinner program.

The new cafe will offer a counter-service breakfast program starting at 8 a.m. daily, with a mix of traditional and Latin-inspired items. Ibarra said the menu will include options like breakfast sandwiches, omelets, smoothies, pastries, and a Puerto Rican-style banh mi alongside espresso and matcha offerings.

“We’re going to be having an espresso program and a matcha program as well,” Ibarra told Business Debut, noting the goal is to create a neighborhood gathering space.

Dinner service will continue with the restaurant’s Latin-focused menu blending Mexican and Caribbean influences, with some new global additions. Ibarra said the team is expanding offerings to include items like noodle dishes and updated takes on classics.

Opening Timeline

The restaurant is targeting a reopening the week of May 5, following approximately three weeks of renovation work. Ibarra said the team has been working through permitting and final construction for the patio improvements.
