Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies Expanding To Sandy Springs
Homemade butter cookies and signature desserts highlight the new Sandy Springs shop founded on a long family legacy.
SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Makeda's Homemade Butter Cookies, the Memphis-based bakery known for its scratch-made butter cookies, is preparing to open its first Georgia franchise at 901 Abernathy Rd NE Suite 400, Sandy Springs, GA 30328, local owner Raven Winton told Business Debut.
Winton said she is targeting an opening sometime after Christmas, with hopes for the first Saturday in January pending final approvals.
What to Expect
The Sandy Springs location will operate as a walk-in cookie shop with seating for guests who want to enjoy their cookies on-site. Cookies will be baked fresh daily, displayed in a case where customers can choose individual cookies, partial dozens, or full dozens.
Winton said customers will also be able to place advance orders for pickup, including call-ahead orders that can be ready in about 15 minutes. Delivery through platforms such as DoorDash and Uber Eats is planned.
The shop will offer milk and assorted sodas, and Winton said she is exploring partnerships with a local coffee vendor to add coffee and tea service.
Menu and Vision
Makeda's Homemade Butter Cookies was started in Memphis in 1999 by Winton’s parents, Maurice and Pamela Hill. They named the business after their niece, Makeda, who died from leukemia at age 6 in 1997.
“It’s been a business for 26 years in Memphis, Tennessee, and I just made the decision to make the move to come out here and give it a try,” Winton told Business Debut.
The bakery specializes in homemade butter cookies made from scratch with dough produced at a Memphis factory run by Winton’s brother, Mauricio Jr. The company offers more than 15 cookie flavors, with its signature butter cookie as the top seller.
Beyond cookies, the Sandy Springs shop will feature several desserts incorporating the butter cookies, including an award-winning banana pudding, a sweet potato pie, and a lemon icebox pie, all made with butter cookie crusts.
Opening Timeline
Winton said she is aiming for an opening early next year, pending completion of remaining approvals. She is hoping to open on the first Saturday in January but has not finalized the date.
Hours
Makeda's Homemade Butter Cookies in Sandy Springs is planned to open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. — 7 p.m. The shop will be closed on Sundays.
