WEST PALM BEACH, FL — Baisel's African Restaurant is targeting a late June opening at 1400 10th St Unit D, West Palm Beach, FL 33401. Owner Godfred Baisel told Business Debut he and his wife, Faustina Baisel, are opening their first restaurant to bring Ghanaian and West African food and culture to the area.

What to Expect

Baisel told Business Debut the restaurant will focus on African dishes, especially food from Ghana. He said he sees growing interest in African food from people traveling to Africa and from people seeing dishes on TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.

He said dishes such as egusi and fufu have become widely discussed online, helping introduce more people to West African food.

“Everybody is talking about egusi,” Baisel told Business Debut.

The restaurant will start with about 14 seats, Baisel told Business Debut. He said the space will be focused on pickup, with limited seating available inside.

The menu will include egusi, fufu, banku, okra soup, palm nut soup, pepper soup, peanut soup, white rice, jollof rice and grilled tilapia, Baisel told Business Debut.

Baisel described egusi as a melon seed-based stew cooked with red oil. He said guests will be able to pair it with fufu, including versions made with cassava and plantain flour, yam flour and banku, which he described as being made from fermented corn dough.

Okra soup, palm nut soup, pepper soup and peanut soup will also be served with fufu, banku or rice, Baisel told Business Debut. He said jollof rice and grilled tilapia with hot pepper will also be part of the menu.

Baisel said he and Faustina Baisel both cook and wanted to bring dishes they eat back home to West Palm Beach.

“We decided to put together most of our dishes that we eat back home and bring it so that everybody in Palm Beach will have the feel of the African meal,” Baisel told Business Debut.

Baisel said the restaurant will prepare food fresh after each order instead of holding prepared dishes for long periods. Orders are expected to take about 10 to 25 minutes, he told Business Debut.
