Kinfolks Biscuit Company — Port St. Lucie

Address: 723 SW Port St Lucie Blvd, Port St. Lucie, FL 34953

Status: Targeting an opening around early to mid-November. Owner Willie Roundtree said November 1 is the goal, with some flexibility depending on construction.

What to expect: Kinfolks Biscuit Company will be a full-service Southern restaurant with roughly 50 seats between its dining room and patio. Breakfast, brunch and lunch will lead the weekday schedule, while weekends will expand into Southern dinner service.

Menu highlights: Planned brunch dishes include salmon croquettes with eggs and grits, smothered chicken and grits, fish and grits with Cajun cream sauce and oxtails and grits. A chicken biscuit based on Kinfolks’ existing chicken sandwich will also be a core item.

Dinner menu: Friday through Sunday will bring heartier dishes such as oxtails, pot roast, short ribs, meatloaf and fried chicken. Beer, wine, mimosas and Bellinis are also planned.

Who’s behind it: Willie Roundtree launched Kinfolks in 2018 and is expanding the brand with a concept built around the idea of bringing the warmth and flavors of a family Southern meal into a restaurant setting.

Golden Krust — Port St. Lucie

Address: 6598 S US Hwy 1, Port St. Lucie, FL 34952

Status: Targeting a December soft opening, followed by a grand opening in early January.

What to expect: Golden Krust will take over a former Burger King building and bring the Jamaican franchise’s full restaurant menu to the U.S. 1 corridor. The ownership group recently secured permits and is preparing the standalone building for opening.

Menu highlights: Jamaican patties will be joined by full entrees such as oxtail, curry chicken, jerk chicken, curry goat and stew peas. The concept offers a broader Jamaican menu than a simple bakery or grab-and-go patty shop.

Opening timeline: The team plans to begin with a December soft opening before holding a larger grand-opening celebration in early January.

Who’s behind it: Franchisee Fatai Taiwo is opening the restaurant with his wife, Kristine Wright-Taiwo, and father-in-law Eglon Wright. This will be the group’s first Golden Krust franchise and what Taiwo described as their flagship location.
