The Tipsy Bull Sport Bar has opened its doors in Durham’s Golden Belt Campus at 800 Taylor Street Suite 6, Durham, NC 27703. Currently in soft opening mode, a grand opening and ribbon cutting is planned for November, owner Porcelain Mills told Business Debut. We saw that Tipsy Bull was planning to open in the Bites of Bull City first.

What to expect

Positioned as a high-end boutique sports bar, The Tipsy Bull aims to provide a space where families, friends, and fans can gather to watch a wide range of sports — with a special emphasis on inclusivity. “We want to make sure we’re inclusive of all sports, especially women’s sports, making sure they get their accolades,” Mills told Business Debut.

The menu, developed by chef James Weeks, is designed to stand apart from typical bar fare. Highlights include pork belly (available as an appetizer or full plate), red snapper, a salmon cheesesteak, and a trio of house-made dips featuring spinach, buffalo chicken, and seafood. Vegetarian-friendly options like a carrot salad with Asian-inspired flavors and a lemon chicken basil wrap are also available.

Ownership and vision

The Tipsy Bull Sport Bar is led by Mills along with partners Fasil Tesfaye, owner of Goorsha in Durham, and Nicholas Pettiford. The team’s vision centers on creating a welcoming community hub. “Inclusivity is the biggest adjective I can use for The Tipsy Bull,” Mills said.

Market and space

The bar sits within the Golden Belt Campus, home to breweries, art galleries, and other local businesses. The space seats 75 inside with room for 20 outdoors and can expand up to 200 guests when paired with the connected art gallery for private events. With dual entrances — one through the campus green and another via the art gallery — the venue is designed to integrate with the surrounding community.

Opening timeline

The bar is currently in soft opening, with a full grand opening celebration scheduled for November.

Hours

The Tipsy Bull plans to operate from 11 a.m. to midnight, with hours adjusted to accommodate major sporting events.
