Steakhouse Relocating to New Tampa Location in 2027
Charley’s Steak House is planning a new Tampa restaurant with wood-fired steaks and expanded private dining space.
TAMPA, FL - Charley’s Steak House is planning a new Tampa location at 1965 N Westshore Blvd, Tampa, FL 33607, with owner Clark Woodsby telling Business Debut the restaurant is targeting a first quarter 2027 opening. The project represents a relocation of the longtime Tampa restaurant, which has operated in the Westshore Business District for nearly 30 years. The move comes as the Florida Department of Transportation plans redevelopment of the current site into a multimodal transportation hub.
The new restaurant will remain part of Talk of the Town Restaurants, the family-owned hospitality group behind Charley’s Steak House as well as Vito’s Chophouse, FishBones, and Texas Cattle Company.
What to Expect
The new Charley’s Steak House will span roughly 15,000 square feet and seat around 400 guests, representing about a 30 percent increase in footprint compared to the current Tampa restaurant. Woodsby said the design will maintain the atmosphere longtime guests expect while adding expanded capabilities for private dining and large groups.
The restaurant will feature convenient surface parking and a covered arrival area designed to enhance the guest experience from the moment they pull up. The team also plans to recreate the lush, oasis-like setting that has become part of the brand’s identity, with landscaping and natural elements incorporated into the new site.
The bar will remain a defining feature of the Tampa location. Woodsby noted that bar seating is often the hardest reservation to secure, with guests lining up before opening for the first-come, first-served seats. The new restaurant will include a larger version of the same bar concept, which he said helps set the energy for the entire dining room.
Group dining will also expand at the new site, with private event space designed to host gatherings of up to 100 guests.
Menu and Vision
Charley’s Steak House is known for steaks cooked over custom-built open wood-burning pits rather than gas grills, a method the company says delivers a distinctive flavor and experience.
“Steaks are what we’re known for,” Woodsby told Business Debut. “But our seafood menu items are the freshest they can be, prepared simply and cooked in a proprietary way on the wood-burning fire.”
The menu also includes generous portions, house salads, and fresh bread baked in-house. Woodsby said the company approaches its menus with a long-term mindset rather than chasing trends.
“We’re more of a timeless concept,” he told Business Debut. “Consistency is what gets you to be timeless.”
Beyond the restaurant itself, Talk of the Town Restaurants operates the Talk of the Town Foundation, which supports charities in the communities where the company does business. Woodsby said the foundation has contributed more than $4 million to local causes over the past eight years through fundraising initiatives and monthly roundup campaigns.
Opening Timeline
The team is targeting the first quarter of 2027 to begin using the new space, with the public opening expected soon after.
Hours
The new location is expected to operate under the same hours as the current Tampa Charley’s Steak House.
