SMYRNA, GA – Rock Dawg Tavern, a new tavern with home-style cooking and a sports focus, is in a full renovation phase and targeting an opening after the first of the year at 730 Concord Rd SE, Smyrna, GA 30082, owner Terry Tucker told Business Debut in a phone interview.

What to Expect

Tucker is reworking the former Timbers space with a complete renovation and new branding as Rock Dawg Tavern. He said the tavern will feature live entertainment and a strong emphasis on local teams, with Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves games on the TVs during their games.

Game days will center on those broadcasts across the tavern’s screens, including 11 televisions upstairs and two downstairs. The main floor where bands will perform will have two 75-inch HDMI TVs for primary viewing, Tucker said.

Tucker said Rock Dawg Tavern will bring back the kind of home-style cooking he previously served when he owned Timbers Tavern.

He is planning for homemade spaghetti, country fried steak, chopped steak, and potentially meatloaf, taco Tuesdays and seafood Fridays.

Homemade sides will include mashed potatoes, fried okra, green beans, corn, deviled eggs, pinto beans, mac n cheese, green bean casserole and navy beans. He also plans hearty homemade soups, a full line of burgers, hot sandwiches, appetizers, salads and homemade desserts.

Tucker said he wants to offer a daily low-cost lunch special.

Ownership Background

Tucker shared that he has owned the building for about 10 years and owned Timbers from 2009 through 2021, then sold the business while retaining the property.

The buyer operated Timbers for four years before closing.

His bar experience in Smyrna stretches back to 1997. Tucker said he opened his first sports bar, Bonz Sports Grill, that year in the Kroger shopping center across from the old Timbers, and ran it until around 2009, when he bought Timbers and closed Bonz.

After a roughly five-year hiatus from Timbers, Tucker said he is returning to the business and looks forward to being back in the kitchen, working with vendors he has known for years and reconnecting with regulars.

Opening Timeline

Tucker said he is targeting opening Rock Dawg Tavern after the first of the year, following the completion of renovations.

He said his alcohol license has been approved through 2027. An exact opening date remains to be announced.

Hours

Planned hours are 11:30 a.m. — 2 a.m. Sunday through Friday, Tucker told Business Debut. On Saturdays, hours are planned for 11:30 a.m. — 3 a.m.
