BUFORD, GA — Xochitl Mexican Restaurant is preparing to open in about two weeks at 33 Buford Village Way 311, Buford, GA 30518. Owner Susana Zarate told Business Debut the restaurant will introduce a family-run Mexican dining concept with a full bar and seating for roughly 180 guests.

The restaurant is operated by Zarate alongside her siblings, children, and family friend Ramon Ortega, creating a multi-generational business rooted in family traditions.

What to Expect

Guests can expect a full-service restaurant with waitstaff, a bar program, and both indoor seating and a patio overlooking the nearby city event lawn. Zarate said the patio faces the area where the city hosts concerts and outdoor gatherings, creating a spot where guests can enjoy drinks and live entertainment during warmer months.

The dining room seats approximately 180 guests and also includes a semi-private room designed for group gatherings and parties.

The menu blends traditional Mexican dishes with Tex-Mex influences and house specialties. Zarate said the restaurant aims to create a welcoming environment centered around family recipes and comforting foods.

Signature items include homemade tamales made by Zarate’s mother, served under the name Aurelia’s Tamales. “Our mom is making the tamales, and she’s been doing it for a long time,” Zarate told Business Debut. “That’s what we ate growing up, and we’re happy to share that with the community.”

Other menu highlights include ramen birria, nachos, and traditional Mexican dishes alongside a full bar featuring margaritas made with fresh lime juice. Zarate, who is originally from Jalisco, Mexico, said the bar program will also showcase tequila selections from the region.

Opening Timeline

Zarate said the restaurant is in their soft opening now and targeting a grand opening in approximately two weeks as the team finalizes staffing, menu details, and bar offerings.

The restaurant marks Zarate’s first business as an owner after many years working in the restaurant industry.
