LRB Provisions Will Open Soon in Durham
Chef Amanda Orser will debut LRB Provisions this November, offering house-baked breads, smoked pastrami, and homemade desserts.
DURHAM, NC — Chef and owner Amanda Orser told Business Debut that LRB Provisions, located at 2009 Guess Rd, Durham, NC 27705, is targeting a mid-November opening. The new venture will operate as a walk-up, takeaway concept serving sandwiches, soups, and homemade potato chips, with limited outdoor seating.
What to Expect
The concept takes over the former Dog House building, which Orser has fully renovated and brought up to code. Guests will order from a walk-up window and can enjoy their meals at outdoor tables or take them to go. LRB Provisions will start with lunch service from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., and will be closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
“It’s easier to start small and add hours than to go big and take them away,” Orser told Business Debut. Future plans may include occasional Friday and Saturday dinners to-go. Beer and wine will be available once licensing is finalized, and the shop plans to collaborate with Piedmont Wine Imports on a pickup program offering three- or six-bottle wine boxes.
Menu and Vision
The menu focuses on high-quality, scratch-made items with a rotating selection of sandwiches, soups, salads, and sides. Their breads will include housemade rye, semolina rolls, and hot dog buns, baked in-house.
"We have a 780-pound electric smoker now in the kitchen, so we’re going to make housemade pastrami and smoked fish," Orser told Business Debut. Weekend specials will include a bialy with smoked trout schmear and pickles, offered as part of a brunch-style box to go. Each Thursday, the shop will host “Throwback Thursday,” featuring rotating hot dogs—like Coney Island or Chicago-style—as an homage to the building’s Dog House roots.
Two desserts will headline the opening menu:
- The “Barkie,” a brown butter, dark chocolate, and smoked oats cookie topped with pepitas and smoked sea salt.
- A miso and black sesame rice crispy treat.
Chef Background
Orser brings local restaurant experience to the new venture. She previously served as the chef de cuisine at Magnolia Grill, followed by time at Lantern and as opening chef at Littler, where she worked for five and a half years. She has also recently hosted pop ups while looking for the right place to open permanently.
