VILLA RICA, GA — Kona Ice is planning a new hub and café at 801 E Bay Springs Dr, Villa Rica, GA 30180, adjacent to Goodwill, that will serve as central operations for owner Michael Mahar’s expanding fleet of mobile concepts. Mahar told Business Debut the project is targeting an opening between August 1 and October 1, pending construction progress.

We first heard the new from The City Menus, who provides detailed coverage of news in West Georgia.

What to Expect

The Villa Rica location will function as a warehouse and headquarters for Mahar’s 25-truck fleet, which includes 20 Kona Ice trucks and five Traveling Tom’s Coffee trucks. The new building will also support the upcoming launch of Beverly Ann’s Cookies and Ice Cream, another mobile concept under the same franchise umbrella.

All brands operate under Rolling Brands, a franchise group based in Florence, Kentucky, which includes more than 1,800 Kona Ice trucks operating in 49 states and three countries.

The new facility will feature a drive-thru capable of holding nine cars, along with a roughly 1,500-square-foot café open to the public. Guests will be able to order Kona Ice, Traveling Tom’s Coffee, and Beverly Ann’s Cookies and Ice Cream from the café.

Upstairs, the building will include a dedicated party room designed for birthday celebrations and private events, offering an alternative to booking a truck at home.

Outside, Mahar said the property will feature an astroturf play area with lawn games including giant Jenga, 3D Tetris and cornhole, along with picnic tables for families to gather.

History

Mahar launched his first Kona Ice truck in 2011 and has since expanded his territory to cover a wide area of West Georgia, stretching from Rome to LaGrange and from Midtown Atlanta to the Alabama state line.

In addition to public events, Mahar’s fleet partners with schools through multi-visit agreements. “Last year, I gave back over a quarter of a million dollars to the schools and communities that we serve,” Mahar told Business Debut.

While Kona Ice slows during colder months, Mahar said school partnerships and the addition of Traveling Tom’s Coffee help balance seasonal demand.

Opening Timeline

Construction is in progress, with concrete work anticipated soon. Mahar told Business Debut the goal is to open between August 1 and October 1.
