Family Behind Sophie's Cafe Opening a Soda Shop in Avon Park

Liam’s Avon Park Soda Shop is opening on Friday, May 15th.

AVON PARK, FL — Liam’s Avon Park Soda Shop is planning to open Friday, May 15th at 23 E Main St, Avon Park, FL 33825, with a grand opening planned around 5 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.

Owner Ed “Eduardo” Giraud told Business Debut the shop will be the second location for the soda shop concept he owns with his wife, Yuneisy Del Cueto.

What to Expect

Liam’s Avon Park Soda Shop will bring the couple’s soda shop concept from Sebring to Avon Park. Giraud told Business Debut the first location, Liam’s Sebring Soda Shop, is located at 201 Circle Park Drive in downtown Sebring.

Giraud said the Avon Park shop is meant to give the community, especially local youth, a place to relax outside of their regular routine. The shop will be a grab-and-go concept with seating for about 20 to 25 guests inside, Giraud told Business Debut.

Guests can expect about 250 soda flavors, fresh beef hot dogs, salted fresh pretzels, fresh-baked cookies, ice cream, shakes and sodas, Giraud told Business Debut. Hot dog options will include styles such as Montreal, Skyline Chili and Plain Jane.

Giraud said his personal favorite order is an Orange Fanta, a Plain Jane hot dog and cookies and cream ice cream. He told Business Debut the Avon Park shop will follow what has worked at the Sebring location, rather than making major menu changes.

Back Story

Giraud and Del Cueto also own Sophie’s Cafe, a Cuban cuisine cafe with three locations in Highlands County, and Morty & Edna’s. Giraud told Business Debut Sophie’s Cafe was their first business and has been open for about eight years.

Sophie's Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, with Cuban coffee, pastries, flan, rice and beans and ropa vieja, Giraud told Business Debut. He said the couple built the business through “hard sweat, blood and tears,” while watching guests connect with the food and the team behind it.

Liam’s Soda Shop is named after their 5-year-old son, Liam, while Sophie’s Cafe is named after their daughter, Giraud told Business Debut. He said the businesses are part of setting roots for their children and continuing the legacy he and Del Cueto have built.

Giraud also credited God, the community and his wife for the growth of the business. “Besides her being the love of my life, she is my business partner, and I couldn’t have chosen anyone else to do life with,” Giraud told Business Debut.
