Zella’s Deli Reopening September 12 in Asheville
New York-style sandwiches, crisp salads, and comforting soups will highlight the menu when Zella’s Deli reopens in Asheville.

ASHEVILLE, NC – Zella's Deli is making its long-awaited comeback to Asheville, with a grand re-opening scheduled for Friday, September 12, at its new location, 611 Tunnel Rd, Asheville, NC 28805. The deli has long been a neighborhood favorite, delivering hearty New York-inspired sandwiches, soups, and deli staples.
“We’re in the final stages, just waiting for permits and health inspections,” Co-owner-chef Reppert told Business Debut. “Once that’s cleared, we'll be open.”
What’s on the Menu
When Zella’s reopens, its menu will include all the classic deli fare, which is New York-style sandwiches stuffed with sliced meats and cheeses, hot soups, fresh, crisp salads, and plated dinners. They’re also keeping their “10 under 10” menu, with low-priced choices but still flavorful.
The concept has stayed true to form: comfort food with New York roots, served with a local vibe.
From Swannanoa to Asheville: A Story of Resilience
Zella’s first opened in Swannanoa, but after Hurricane Helene hit, the area was really damaged. The building and nearby establishment couldn’t be fixed, so Zella’s had to close. “We tried to reopen in Swannanoa, but it was just too difficult; there are no good spots. A lot of the city was destroyed, and the city wasn't really helping with the water thing,” Reppert explained.
The new Tunnel Road location offers a fresh start while staying close to the community that supported them through the crisis. Reppert and his team say the neighborhood vibe of the area, close to Kenilworth and Haw Creek, makes it a perfect fit for Zella’s rebirth.
Chef Reppert, who also owns The Blackbird in Asheville along with a few local bars, leads Zella’s alongside partners Ivey Lamos and John Tressler. The name Zella comes from Reppert’s mom’s family name, Maruzzella, honoring his family roots in New York.
