Right off of Highway 75, about 50 miles north of Gainesville, a new indoor/outdoor entertainment complex is under development. Leading the charge is music producer and songwriter Mike Woods, who spent 11 years in Los Angeles establishing his career by garnering Grammy and Emmy nominations and producing Billboard hits.

During COVID, however, he built a house on family property in Lake City, where the Woods family has extensive roots. With a home base in the area, he began bringing musicians and artists to the area to record.

It was then that Woods realized a need for entertainment in Lake City and began the process of creating The Woods at 149 SW Woolsey Gln, Lake City, FL 32024.

The compound is being built on a 7-acre piece of property and will feature two live performance stages (one indoor, one outdoor), a restaurant, a full bar, pickleball courts, an outdoor disco skating rink, and a pond with beach sand and lounge chairs.

The idea behind the venue is to bring a unique entertainment experience to Lake City—giving performance artists a stage and locals and travelers a family-friendly experience.

The venue will be open Thursday through Sunday and will showcase live music each day.

The roller skating rink will have a funky disco theme complete with a disco ball, and the pickleball courts will be decorated with neon and glow-in-the-dark colors under UV lights.

The restaurant will feature all outdoor seating and walk-up window ordering. The kitchen will be built into shipping containers, Woods shared. Additionally, a 1,600-square-foot bar will open with three roll-up garage doors for an indoor/outdoor aesthetic.

There will also be an outdoor stage and an indoor 4,000-square-foot stage with its own bar, Woods said. Parts of the venue will be available for private event rentals and parties.

Currently, Woods estimates that three-quarters of the project is complete. Structures are in place, and they hope to debut by the end of August.
