Taco Express Now Open in Summerland Key

SUMMERLAND KEY, FL – On Sept. 1, Taco Express expanded its popular Mexican food concept with a second location at 24171 Overseas Hwy, Summerland Key, FL 33042.

Owner Leonardo "Leo" Nodarse shared with Business Debut that they have approximately 10 indoor benches and outdoor picnic tables, making it ideal for a quick lunch or casual dinner.

What’s on the Menu

Taco Express offers various authentic Mexican foods, such as al pastor tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and mix platters. The restaurant is known for its birria tacos, which Nodarse says customers love all across the country. He also began making suadero tacos after discovering recipes from Veracruz, Mexico.

“My favorite is definitely the birria tacos and our suadero tacos,” Nodarse said. “Those two are my favorite, and people say they’re the best.”

The menu also has sides like chips with guacamole, pico de gallo, and queso, plus brisket tacos, traditional Cuban breakfast sandwiches, sausage, chorizo, egg, and cheese. In addition to its usual menu, it will also offer breakfast items such as breakfast tacos, chilaquiles, and breakfast platters.

From Food Truck to Full Restaurant

Nodarse and his wife first launched Taco Express as a food truck in Stock Island, where they’ve been serving locals and tourists for eight years. The truck remains open at 5180 Suncrest Rd, Stock Island, FL 33040, offering the same menu that will carry over to the new Summerland Key restaurant. It also offers food delivery via DoorDash or Uber Eats.

“That food truck was the hardest thing we ever did,” Nodarse said. “All the hard work from the food truck is paying off, and we're just expanding a little bit. We got the opportunity to open up a restaurant.”

Nodarse shared that the journey has not only been about hard work, but also about faith. “I can’t say it was me, we’ve been blessed in everything that we’ve accomplished,” he said. “At the end of the day, it's all because the Lord has blessed us and He's been with us throughout the whole process.”

His wife and team also play a central role in the success of Taco Express. “It’s not just me,” Nodarse said. “It’s my wife, my staff, they’re awesome, we try to get along as best as we can. I value that because we spend so much of our time in life at work, and it's important to have people that you can get along with and trust.”

Opening Hours

The new Taco Express restaurant is open Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
