S&S Cafeteria to Re-Open in Macon This Spring
The Riverside Drive location is targeting a mid-March reopening.
MACON, GA — S&S Cafeterias is working toward reopening its Riverside Drive location at 2626 Riverside Dr., Macon, GA 31204 following a fire in September 2024.
Owner Rick Pogue told Business Debut the team is currently aiming for a mid-March reopening, with the timeline potentially stretching into early April depending on final construction progress.
What to Expect
S&S Cafeterias plans to return with its cafeteria-style service and the same core experience guests knew before the fire, Pogue told Business Debut.
The Riverside restaurant, built in 1972 and described by Pogue as the company’s flagship, is being rebuilt with a mix of preserved history and a more modern look in the dining room.
Menu and Vision
Pogue said the food will remain unchanged, with the same menu and recipes the brand has used for decades. “Nothing will change on the food,” Pogue told Business Debut, adding that keeping the history of the food and service is the most important piece of the reopening.
Opening Timeline
S&S Cafeterias is celebrating its 90th year in business, Pogue told Business Debut. The company traces back to an original S&S location that opened in 1936 in Columbus, Georgia, with the Macon presence dating to a Cherry Street location that opened in 1941 before later relocating to the current Riverside Drive site.
As of the interview, Pogue said the rebuild is in active construction: the space is framed out, crews are installing the epoxy kitchen floor, and equipment and furniture are already on site for installation once the build is ready.
