Clearwater, FL – A new hangout for Tampa Bay area cat lovers will launch soon. Purring Cats Cafe, founded by Monica Ancu, is preparing to open at 2440 State Rd 580, Clearwater, FL 33761. The upcoming business is still awaiting permits, but if all goes smoothly, Ancu confirmed with Business Debut that she plans to welcome guests in January or February 2026. We came across the story first in What Now.

A Cozy Community for Cat Lovers

Ancu will run the cafe independently and envisions Purring Cats Cafe as a warm and playful environment for adoptable cats, where guests can enjoy coffee and pastries while spending time with their pets. The 1,750-square-foot space will feature table seating, as well as couches, beanbags, and lounge chairs.

"This is not just a business but more a community space where people who love animals can come and interact and be happy spending time with them,” Ancu shared. “I see this as a community space where animals are safe and treated with safety, respect, and love.”

Purring Cats Cafe anticipates opening six days a week (Wednesday through Monday), from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. on weekends, with Tuesdays closed.

Purring Cats Cafe will partner with local bakeries to offer baked goods, snacks, and gluten-free options. Coffee-based drinks, soft beverages, and monthly specialty drinks will round out the menu.

In addition to the café experience, the business plans to host themed events like cat yoga, movie nights with cats, craft activities, and adoption events in partnership with local shelters. Adoption fees will go directly to the shelters supporting the program.

Owner’s Background and Inspiration

Ancu has always adored animals and has ambitions to open a shelter eventually. Currently, she has two dogs, but her passion for cats led her to create a space where the community can meet adoptable cats in a fun and engaging environment.

She also has had experience working in cafes and believes she can combine two things she loves: hospitality and animal care. “I worked with cafes in the past, and every time I loved the interaction and the experience,” Ancu said. “I decided, I want to help find loving homes for loveable cats.”
