Pirate Island Pizza And BBQ Opening in Fernandina Beach
The food trailer will feature smoked meats, pizza planks, and a pirate-inspired dining experience.
FERNANDINA BEACH, FL — Pirate Island Pizza And BBQ, a pirate-themed food trailer from owner Llew Sutton, is targeting a June 2 opening at 22 S. 8th St., Fernandina Beach, FL 32034, where it will be set up Tuesdays at First Love Brewing.
Sutton said the trailer will also be available for events throughout Nassau County, with booking available through the business’s Facebook page or by emailing pirateislandspizzaandbarbecue@gmail.com.
What to Expect
Pirate Island Pizza And BBQ will serve wood-fired flatbreads, smoked meats and sides from a trailer rather than a traditional food truck, Sutton told Business Debut.
The flatbreads will be called “pizza planks,” a nod to the pirate theme. Sutton said the planks will be 13 inches by 5 inches and cooked in a wood-fired oven. Seating will be available during Tuesday service at First Love Brewing, with picnic bench seating for about 40 guests, Sutton told Business Debut.

Menu and Vision
The menu will include wood-fired pizza planks, pulled pork, short ribs, brisket, smoked mac and cheese and other sides, Sutton told Business Debut.
Sutton said the pizza planks will be 13-inch by 5-inch flatbreads cooked in a wood-fired oven. The trailer will also offer smoked meats, including pulled pork inspired by Eastern North Carolina barbecue, with smoked oranges added for a Florida-influenced citrus note.
Sutton, who is from North Carolina, said barbecue is “basically my second language.”
“What I’m going to do is I’m going to take the Eastern Carolina barbecue that I grew up with and I’m going to smoke some oranges and infuse those oranges into the Eastern Carolina Q,” Sutton told Business Debut.
Sutton said the name came from a long-running idea for the pizza planks and from pirate history in both North Carolina and Fernandina Beach.
“I noticed all of the pirate lore,” Sutton told Business Debut. “Here I’m right by the island. It’s everywhere you look.”
