Ballantyne/Charlotte, NC — Palm Berries, the açaí bowl and smoothie concept founded by Chandler Gottlieb, Erum Hussain, Ahsan Mehmood, and Noor Mehmood, is preparing to open a new location in the Ballantyne area at 7808 Rea Rd Suite E, Charlotte, NC 28277.

The company is targeting an opening in approximately six to seven weeks as construction progresses, Gottlieb told Business Debut.

What to Expect

Palm Berries operates as a fast-casual café specializing in açaí bowls and smoothies, with most orders designed for on-the-go convenience. The space will follow a café-style layout with seating for guests who want to stay, while maintaining a strong takeout focus.

Açaí bowls make up the majority of sales, with smoothies rounding out the menu. The concept centers on customizable bowls with fruit, granola, and toppings.

The menu is built around açaí, a super fruit sourced from Brazil, blended into a frozen base and topped with fresh ingredients. “About 75% of what we sell is açaí bowls,” Gottlieb told Business Debut, with the remainder coming from smoothies. The brand has grown steadily since launching as a food truck in 2019 in Denver, North Carolina.

After about a year and a half of operating the truck, the team transitioned into brick-and-mortar, using early community support to build momentum. “It did super well in Denver… word spread really quick,” Gottlieb told Business Debut.

Growth Strategy

Palm Berries now has 13 locations open, with additional stores in development. The Charlotte location will be one of several planned openings, including both corporate and franchise units.

The entry into the Charlotte market has focused on building in suburban areas surrounding larger metro areas before venturing into the city centers.

Looking ahead, the team plans to scale aggressively. Gottlieb said the goal is to reach more than 100 locations over time, with a mix of corporate and franchise growth.

Opening Timeline

The Rea Road location is expected to open in approximately six to seven weeks.

The company is also planning an Asheville location at 1 Town Square Blvd, Suite 330 Asheville, NC 28803, targeting an opening in the coming months.
