Oxford Place Bringing Southern Dining to Jacksonville This Winter
Southern classics, a full bar, and a warm neighborhood atmosphere are coming to Ortega’s village center.
JACKSONVILLE, FL — Oxford Place, a new full-service restaurant blending Southern flavor and neighborhood hospitality, is set to open this winter in the historic Oxford & Corinthian building at 2902 Corinthian Avenue, Jacksonville, FL. Business Debut heard about this story first from What Now.
Owners Jerry Brown and his son Hughes Brown, the Jacksonville restaurateurs behind Bold Birds Nashville Hot Chicken in Murray Hill, told Business Debut that the restaurant will pair approachable elegance with seasonally inspired Southern fare and a strong sense of community.
What to Expect
Oxford Place will occupy about 2,900 square feet inside the flatiron-style Oxford & Corinthian building and offer seating for roughly 120 guests between indoor dining, outdoor tables, and a full-service bar.
Dinner service will launch first, with brunch expected to follow soon after opening. The Browns describe the space as refined yet relaxed, preserving the building’s historic charm while introducing modern comfort.
Guests can expect a menu rooted in Southern tradition and elevated through classic cooking techniques. Dishes will include New Orleans-style barbecue shrimp, grit soufflé with bacon beurre blanc, and blackened redfish with Hoppin’ John. Signature cocktails, curated wines, and a happy hour program will round out the experience.
Menu and Vision
Jerry Brown said Oxford Place represents the next step in his family’s restaurant journey. “We’re not just opening a restaurant, we’re bringing new life to a building with deep roots,” he told Business Debut. “Our goal is to create a warm, inviting place where guests can gather often and feel as if they were guests in our own home.”
Brown and his son bring a blend of fine dining and fast casual experience, having previously operated a Nashville restaurant called Watermark before launching Bold Birds in Jacksonville. For Oxford Place, they are drawing from both worlds, combining the precision of fine dining with the neighborly ease of a community restaurant.
Chef Thomas White, who has worked in several well-known Jacksonville kitchens, will serve as Head Chef.
Community and Restoration
The Oxford & Corinthian building, constructed in 1923 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, sits in the heart of Ortega’s walkable village center. The Browns, who live nearby, purchased the building after it had been vacant for more than three years following the closure of its previous restaurant tenant.
The renovation combines two former storefronts, Simply Sara’s and Fonda’s Hairstyling, into one space designed by Adler Interior Design. The restoration emphasizes the building’s tall windows, distinctive roofline, and original craftsmanship.
“It’s special to live here and be able to open something for our neighbors,” Brown said. “Dining creates connection, and to do that right here at home is a unique opportunity.”
Opening Timeline
Oxford Place is targeting an opening between late 2025 and early 2026. The Browns are also preparing to open a second Bold Birds location in Lakewood in December 2025.
Hours
Oxford Place will open for dinner service first, with brunch to follow at a later date. Final hours will be announced closer to opening.
