Opening in DeLand: La Flama Taqueria Coming Soon
Expect tacos made from high-quality, locally sourced meat.
DELAND, FL — La Flama Taqueria, a new taco restaurant planned for 2731 S Woodland Blvd Deland, FL 32720, is targeting an opening in late October or early November, owner Jose Valverde told Business Debut in a phone interview.
Valverde said the restaurant will feature locally sourced, high quality meat in every taco.
What to Expect
La Flama Taqueria will center on tacos with a range of proteins. Valverde said he plans fish, shrimp, picanha, ribeye, pork, and a vegetable option.
Valverde said he is sourcing pork and beef from farms that focus on animal welfare and from Florida producers when possible. He is also planning aguas frescas and other Mexican beverages and treats. Valverde said he expects to offer free refills on aguas frescas.
Once a month, he is considering offering a wagyu option for one day, using Australian or Japanese wagyu. Beer and wine service is planned, pending completion of the licensing process.
Guests will order at the counter, then move along a line where they can see the meats cooking and choose their tacos.
“The kitchen is not behind the wall,” Valverde told Business Debut. “The people are going to be able to see how the meat is cooking and the vertical broilers are going to be right there.”
A salsa station featuring a range of salsa and vegetables will be available at no extra charge.
Art on the interior walls will follow a design Valverde created. A painter is currently working on the murals.
Ownership Background
Valverde described La Flama Taqueria as a family business that involves his wife and their 10 children.
He owns a nearby coffee shop and distributes ice cream. He said he is a third-generation ice cream maker and has operated ice cream shops in the past.
Valverde also shared that he has persevered in his businesses despite health challenges wih multiple sclerosis. “I have MS,” he told Business Debut. “I have been diagnosed for the past 18, 19 years but I’m still going.”
Opening Timeline
Valverde is aiming for a soft opening at the end of October or the beginning of November.
He plans several staged soft openings, starting with workers from the plaza, then friends and family, followed by a broader community group. The full public opening date is to be announced.

La Flama Taqueria plans to open seven days a week.
Valverde said he expects to open from 10 a.m. — 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
On Friday and Saturday, he is targeting later hours until 2 a.m., subject to plaza approval. He said the late hours are intended to serve nearby Stetson University students seeking food options.
