North Indian Restaurant Opening Soon in Chapel Hill
Naan by Gulshan will soon open in Chapel Hill offering North Indian dishes and a full bar.
CHAPEL HILL, NC — A new Indian restaurant called Naan by Gulshan is preparing to open at 1301 E Franklin St #100, Chapel Hill, NC 27514, taking over the former Tandoor Indian Restaurant space.
Owner Baljeet Singh told Business Debut the restaurant is expected to open within the next two to three weeks. Singh is opening the restaurant with her husband, Gulshan Singh, who previously worked in the same location during the 1990s when it operated as Tandoor.
What to Expect
Naan by Gulshan will offer a full-service dining experience with seating for about 76 guests. The restaurant will operate in the building’s basement level, a format Singh said is uncommon in the region but more typical in larger cities.
Singh said the space will offer a fine dining atmosphere serving lunch and dinner.
Menu and Vision
The menu will center on North Indian dishes known for their rich flavor profiles and use of spices such as coriander seeds and cumin seeds. Singh said the restaurant will highlight traditional preparations that emphasize the deeper spice blends associated with North Indian cooking.
The restaurant will also feature a full bar.
Naan by Gulshan marks Singh’s third restaurant in the Triangle. She also operates Naan Stop Indian Cuisine in Durham and Naan House Indian Bistro in Apex.
The Chapel Hill restaurant carries personal meaning for the family. Gulshan Singh previously worked at Tandoor in the 1990s and had long hoped to one day own the space.
“He used to work in the 1990s and that was his dream that one day he would own this place,” Singh told Business Debut. “Now his dream is coming true.”
Opening Timeline
The restaurant is targeting an opening within two to three weeks.
Hours
The restaurant plans to operate six days a week and will be closed Tuesdays. Lunch and dinner service will be offered.
