WILMINGTON, NC — Avenue B is now in a soft opening phase at 723 North 4th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401, offering weekend service ahead of a grand opening planned for March 21, co-owner Tabrina Watson told Business Debut.

The cocktail bar sits in the Brooklyn Arts District and is currently opening Thursdays through Saturdays. Tabrina and Christopher Watson own the business together.

What to Expect

Avenue B is aiming for a refined but approachable neighborhood bar, Watson told Business Debut. The space includes indoor capacity for 49, plus seating for 49 in a courtyard, with an exterior bar dedicated to the outdoor area.

During soft opening, the team is focusing on testing recipes and building a regular cadence in the neighborhood. Avenue B is also leaning into the Brooklyn Arts District’s social district, which takes place the first and third Saturdays of every month.

Watson, who has worked in fine dining for close to 20 years, said she curates the wine program with a blend of old-world and new-world bottles. “We want to appeal to everybody, and we don’t want anybody to feel that they couldn’t come in and grab a drink,” she told Business Debut.

On the cocktail side, Watson said the goal is to take classic drinks and rework them with new approaches while keeping the foundation intact. One example is the Olay Fashion, a mezcal old fashioned finished with muddled jalapeño.

Avenue B also plans to add food. Watson said the team is targeting a cold kitchen by the end of the year for cheese and charcuterie boards, with a longer-term plan for a full cheese counter selling by weight.
