East of Texas is preparing to expand from Winston-Salem to Durham, opening in the American Tobacco Campus at: 318 Blackwell St, Durham, NC 27701. Owner Claire Calvin told Business Debut that they are early in the construction process and hope to debut this summer.

What to Expect

Opening in an approximately 5,700 square foot space, East of Texas will offer seamless indoor/outdoor dining with roll up garage doors, a bar, a mezzanine, and an additional space available for private events and dining.

Calvin shared that she plans to join the bustling atmosphere of the American Tobacco Campus and provide a space for any occasion, a casual meal out, a first date, a rehearsal dinner, and more. Expect counter service and seating for several hundred guests, including nearby common-area seating in the American Tobacco Campus.

The brand was founded in 2023 in Winston-Salem and has established itself for serving Mexican-American BBQ. They offer breakfast burritos, smoked meat trays, sandwiches, Tex-Mex tacos, margaritas and much more, which you can view here.

The menu will likely closely mirror the Winston-Salem menu, but expect continual refinements and changes.

Background

Calvin, an experienced restaurateur, owns Yallsome Kitchens & Hangs. The hospitality brand is behind Alma Mexicana, The Porch, and a large catering operation, all based in Winston-Salem.

Opening Timeline

Replacing Five Star restaurant in the American Tobacco Campus, Calvin said that they are expanding the space and readying it for their concept. The opening is projected for sometime this summer.
