An ambitious new business is in the works for a 110,000 square foot Atlanta-area warehouse, owner Michael Shamus told Business Debut in an interview on Monday, May 12.

Pickleball Club of Georgia is planning a facility that centers on pickleball but extends far beyond the sport alone.

Shamus shared that the business will bring 33 indoor, climate-controlled pickleball courts, a pro shop, a full bar, a restaurant, a café, a weight room, four TrackMan golf simulators, locker rooms with showers, and four private event spaces. The golf simulators will also have their own dedicated room, which can be rented and catered as a fifth event space.

The facility’s address is 1365 English St NW, Atlanta, GA 30318.

Shamus emphasized that the concept will be a welcoming, non-pretentious space. Regardless of someone’s interest in pickleball, he wants customers to feel welcome for any or all of the amenities.

The club will offer memberships along with walk-in play. Regular events will include leagues, after-school programs, a juniors academy, clinics, classes, and summer camps. Outside of pickleball, the facility will also host golf leagues, instruction and coaching, and personal training in the weight room.

Georgia Tech’s pickleball club will use Pickleball Club of Georgia as their home courts, Shamus said.

The idea for the club came about when Shamus, captain of his ALTA pickleball team, recognized the need for more venues to support the growing sport. He spent over a year and a half searching for the right facility before landing on the English Street warehouse. He shared that it was formerly used for ballot machine and law enforcement storage.

The target opening is late 2025. Demolition permits were granted on May 12, and demo is now underway. Shamus shared that while the space is vast, minimal changes will be made to the building. The focus will be on installing the courts, building out the kitchen, and completing the interior amenities.

In addition to this venture, Shamus is a technology consultant and owns the production company ZK Productions. He has also been involved in business across several industries.
