FERNANDINA BEACH, FL – A new European-inspired market is coming to downtown. Marche Cotier, located at 5 S 2nd St, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034, officially opened its doors on Wednesday, September 3rd, per their Instagram.

Owner Greg Devaney, who is launching the project alongside his wife Jessie, told Business Debut that the vision has been years in the making. “We’ve spent hundreds and hundreds of hours finding the right product that we can bring here that is clean, healthy, delicious, and hopefully keep people coming back for more,” Devaney said.

Marche Cotier draws inspiration from the cafés and open-air markets of Italy, France, and Spain. Designed to transport guests to the Mediterranean coast, the 1,200-square-foot space combines a specialty market with a welcoming café, offering seating for up to 12 along the sunlit windows.

The market will feature 42 different kinds of cheese, various styles of prosciutto, including an American version inspired by Iberico, as well as pantry items such as jams, mustards, pâtés, and imported spreads. It will also feature a French baguette with a delicious spread, two different butters sourced from Burgundy and France, with plans to expand to other pastries, such as regular croissants and chocolate croissants.

The café will serve Italian-style coffee drinks, real affogatos made with house-made Madagascar vanilla gelato, and charcuterie boards made from fresh meats sliced with an imported Italian flywheel slicer. One special item will be olive oil from 500- and 600-year-old olive trees in Umbria, Italy. Marche Cotier will be the first U.S. store to carry this exclusive olive oil.

The shop will feature 30 different wines from around the world, including France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, and South Africa, as well as some wines from Long Island, New York, where the owners are from. People can try wines by the glass in the café, with eight different options available that change regularly to pair with food.

The café will also introduce a caviar service, featuring five types, from entry-level selections to a Beluga hybrid. “The only place you can get caviar is on Amelia Island, and it's not really accessible to everyday people for a special occasion at home. So we're happy to be able to provide that here in the area.” Devaney explained.

In addition, Marche Cotier will feature its own Marsh & Meat Club, offering specially crafted dry-aged steaks, Wagyu beef, game meats, and other premium ingredients, including truffles and morel mushrooms, which can be ordered upon request.

From World Travels to Local Dreams

For Greg and Jessie Devaney, Marche Cotier is the culmination of years of inspiration and travel. Greg, who has visited 45 countries and even proposed to Jessie in Italy, shares with his wife a love for the food culture of Europe’s coastal towns. Although the couple originally planned to launch the market after Greg’s retirement, they seized the opportunity when a perfect downtown Fernandina location became available.

Self-funded and free from outside investors, the Devaneys are focused on quality over profit. “Our goal is to provide affordable products as best as we can for the quality that we're getting. So we're not looking for huge profit margins,” Devaney said. “We're looking to bring something new to Fernandina and have people enjoy European foods that are super clean and healthy that taste delicious.”

Opening Hours

The market café will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. It will be closed on Mondays.
