Locohana Tropical Grill Debuting First Franchise in Destin
The family-owned tropical grill will feature fresh seafood bowls, jerk chicken, tacos, and a full bar.
DESTIN - Locohana Tropical Grill, a family owned and operated franchise, is targeting a June 12th opening in Destin. Owner Weber Coryell told Business Debut the restaurant will open at 115 Palmetto St., Destin, FL 32541.
What to Expect
The fast-casual tropical grill will serve Caribbean-inspired tacos, bowls and other fresh eats, Coryell told Business Debut. Guests will order at the counter, with the option to keep a tab open at the full-service bar.
The restaurant will have about 50 seats inside, 10 bar seats and about 35 outdoor seats. Coryell said the outdoor area will include umbrellas, white Bahama rock gravel and bar windows that can open to the exterior.
Menu and Vision
Menu highlights will include seared tuna, salmon, jerk chicken, shrimp, conch fritters, and bowls with rice, beans, corn, and sauces, Coryell told Business Debut. The conch fritters are sourced from Exuma and served with piña colada sauce.
Other featured items will include a blackened salmon bowl with honey and jerk chicken served as tacos or in bowls. The bar will serve beer, wine, and cocktails, including a Loco Rita with black charcoal, a coconut lime mule, a pink Ohana aid, and a coconut mojito.
“Loco means crazy. Ohana means your family. Crazy family,” Coryell told Business Debut. “It’s a family-oriented business.”
Coryell and his wife, Katrina Coryell, own the Destin location. The couple has three children: Dax (age 7), Wiley (age 5), and Bowie (age 2). Coryell said the original idea was to create a family-friendly space with a fenced-in area that could work for guests with or without kids.
Back Story
Coryell served in the Navy for 11 years as an explosive ordnance disposal technician before moving toward restaurant ownership, he told Business Debut. After three deployments and having three children, he said he was ready to spend more time with family.
Coryell said he learned about the Locohana franchise through founder Mike Dunkin, his former dive school roommate. The franchisor team also includes Dawn Dunkin and Jamie Marozzi.
The Destin restaurant will be the brand’s third location and the first franchise owned location outside the founding family, Coryell told Business Debut. It will also be the brand’s first location with a full bar.
