La Bodega, a hybrid convenience store and pupuseria originally founded in 2019 by husband-and-wife team Ken Katz and Jeanette Flores-Katz, is preparing to open in a new location on the southwest side of Atlanta.

The business will move into the former D & D Barbecue space at 1975 Sylvan Rd SW, Atlanta, GA 30310.

The brand began in the Atlanta community at The MET on Murphy Avenue. Ken Katz shared that they originally opened as an El Salvadorian restaurant but pivoted to being a market during the pandemic.

La Bodega closed at the MET following Atrium Health's purchase of the building.

Ken and Jeanette also known for their earlier venture, Buenos Dias Café on Broad Street near Georgia State University, which opened in 2012 and later closed during the pandemic when students and staff left campus.

At the new La Bodega, customers can expect a mix of fresh produce and products from local suppliers and farmers. Katz shared with Business Debut that the store will include a walk-in cooler for vendors and farmers to store their goods overnight.

In addition to retail offerings, La Bodega will serve as a community hub—hosting pop-ups and participating in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) initiatives (learn more).

Packaged pupusas under the Buenos Dias brand will also be available for purchase.
