AMERICUS, GA – IceHouse Beer Garden is preparing to bring a family-friendly beer garden and restaurant to downtown Americus later this year at 533 W Forsyth St, Americus, GA 31709. The venture is led by owners Todd and Melissa Shufflebarger, along with Wes and Deanna Beaman, longtime friends who share a passion for craft beer and travel. Todd Shufflebarger told Business Debut that they are aiming to open in the latter part of December.

IceHouse Beer Garden will be located in the historic Atlantic Ice and Coal Company warehouse, which was abandoned right by the railroad.

Concept and Atmosphere

The concept is designed to welcome families and groups of all ages. There are three spaces for guests to choose from: a private area in the front, an interior dining room, or an outside garden with exposed beams, fire pits, astro-turf, and a stage for live music. The interior dining room is approximately 2,000 square feet, while the garden measures 4,600 square feet, which will accommodate over 100 guests.

IceHouse Beer Garden will open at 11 a.m. and close around 11 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, with potentially longer opening hours on the weekends.

Food and Drink Offerings

The menu will go beyond traditional bar fare, with enhanced pub-style foods like burgers, chips, wraps, and locally inspired dishes. The proprietors intend to work with local farms to obtain fresh products wherever possible. Services will include full-service dining at booths and tables, and a distinctively designed bar.

IceHouse Beer Garden will feature approximately 20 taps, highlighting Georgia-based craft breweries such as Scofflaw, Fall Line, and Piedmont Brewery, as well as a selection of domestic beers.

A Labor of Love and Friendship

Friendship and common interests are crucial to the story of the IceHouse Beer Garden. Todd and Wes met while working together in the fire service, where Wes worked for 17 years before switching to a career in law. Melissa and Deanna met while working in physical therapy.

When both couples began traveling together, they discovered their joy in touring craft breweries. That common interest manifested as a desire to create something that would resemble the warm, community-oriented places they had travelled to.
