DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Mr. Dunderbak’s, a longtime Daytona Beach restaurant with a 50-year history inside the local mall, is preparing to relocate to a standalone downtown location at 116 N. Beach St., Daytona Beach, FL 32114, targeting an April opening.

Owner Doug Martin told Business Debut the move is designed to extend operating hours, introduce new offerings, and make the restaurant easier to access for its largely longtime, older customer base.

The new location will mark a major transition for the brand. Martin said the limitations of mall hours and long walking distances from parking prompted the decision to relocate.

What to Expect

The downtown space will operate as a full-service restaurant with seating for 86 guests indoors, along with an outdoor area that will allow for a beer garden. The interior will feature a long, continuous bar modeled after the existing location, maintaining a familiar look for longtime guests.

The building layout will allow guests to enter from the rear parking area, a change Martin said is especially important for older customers who currently must walk long distances through the mall to reach the restaurant.

Mr. Dunderbak’s will continue to serve its extensive deli-driven menu, which includes longtime favorites such as the Cajun Dutchman, the Blue Max, the Champ, the Reuben, and the New Yorker. The Cajun Dutchman, a triple-decker sandwich with roast beef, smoked gouda, ham, bacon, Cajun sauce, and pumpernickel bread, remains the top-selling item.

The new location will also introduce additions not possible in the mall. A separated deli and small market area at the front of the space will offer grab-and-go sandwiches, meats, cheeses, and basic grocery staples like milk, eggs, bread, and select produce. Martin said the goal is to better serve the growing downtown residential community.

Ownership and Operations

Matt Martin, Doug Martin’s son, is the primary owner-operator of the Daytona Beach location. Jason Burford will serve as general manager, with Brandi Parks as manager. Doug Martin remains involved in an advisory role.

Opening Timeline

The team is targeting an April opening, with construction and buildout currently underway.

Hours

The deli and market area is expected to open as early as 7 a.m., with the full-service restaurant opening later in the day, likely around 11 a.m., and operating into the evening. Final hours are still being finalized.
