Garland Mountain Grill Planning to Re-Open by End of Summer
Garland Mountain's restaurant burned down in 2023; now they're building a bigger and better facility.
WALESKA, GA — Garland Mountain Grill is nearing completion on a full rebuild at 2618 Garland Mountain Trail, Waleska, Georgia 30183, following a November 2023 fire that completely destroyed the original restaurant building, owner Jack Chavelier told Business Debut.
Construction is expected to be completed near the end of July, with plans to open shortly thereafter.
Garland Mountain, which operates on 230 acres and includes both a restaurant and a sporting clays shooting facility, first focused on rebuilding its shooting operations to resume events and corporate entertaining. The new restaurant building represents the second phase of the re-building process.
What to Expect
The new Garland Mountain Grill is being built specifically as a full restaurant, a major shift from the original structure, which was not initially designed to operate as one.
“The original building was not supposed to be a restaurant. We made it work,” Chavelier told Business Debut. Previously, the kitchen operated in a space comparable to a food truck while serving large events of 200 to 250 guests. The new facility includes a 2,500-square-foot kitchen, walk-in refrigeration and freezers, loading access and expanded storage.
The redesigned space also separates event operations from everyday dining. In the former layout, large charity shoots or corporate gatherings often took over the restaurant, creating a crowded experience for regular lunch and dinner guests.
The new building includes a main dining room seating about 50 to 60 guests, a private meeting and dining room for approximately 25, and an enclosed patio that can accommodate 50 to 60 more.
The patio wraps around roughly half the building and features retractable enclosures for year-round use. Overall capacity can exceed 200 guests when fully utilized.
Menu and Vision
Garland Mountain Grill will continue with an American grill-style menu for regular service, featuring brisket, barbecue, burgers, chicken and salads. For events, the kitchen will now be fully self-sustained rather than relying on outside caterers.
The expanded kitchen allows for a broader range of offerings, from casual barbecue for charity events to higher-end menus including steaks and seafood for corporate gatherings and weddings. Chavelier said the upgraded kitchen and new layout will improve both service and the overall dining experience.
Opening Timeline
Construction is expected to wrap near the end of July. Chavelier said the goal is to open within two to three weeks after completion, pending certificates of occupancy and final approvals.
Garland Mountain originally opened in 2016 and will mark its 10th year in business this June.
