Welcome to the second edition of South Florida Food and Beverage Weekly! We have another round of great businesses opening in the greater Miami area.
MONROE COUNTY
Rhum House and Palm Deck and at Grassy Flats
Grassy Flats Resort & Beach Club is bringing exciting new concepts to Marathon soon, according to owner Matthew Sexton. The Rhum House will offer a unique dining experience of local seafood, and what Sexton calls “thoughtful proteins,” like elk and venison, sourced from providers across the country.
Palm Deck, a rooftop venue, will provide great views of the channel, along with small bites and drinks. Sexton estimates that they will have a soft opening for the concepts in a few weeks, and a grand opening sometime in May. They are located at 58182 Overseas Hwy
Dive Bar Shirt Club
This new concept opening in Key West blends a shirt distribution business with your local watering hole. Dive Bar Shirt Club is known for providing their subscribers with t-shirts from America’s numerous weird and wonderful dive bars.
At the bar, you can enjoy a pint and watch the Dive Bar Shirt Club pack up and ship off their t-shirts. “It's like an open-air kitchen but for t-shirts,” owner Cody Shoemake told FFBW. They opened yesterday, 3/20/23, at 320 Grinnell St.
DADE COUNTY
Omakai Sushi
This South Florida business has two new locations in the works, according to a company spokesperson. The first will appear in Coconut Grove at 3304 Mary St. Their website indicated that they plan to open on April 1.
According to the spokesperson for the brand, a second location is planned for Brickell. This unit appears to be very early in development, and no other information is available as of now.
BROWARD COUNTY
TropiBowls
TropiBowls is planning another location for their Florida-grown business. FFBW spoke with co-owner Daniel Mederos to confirm that they will open in three or so months. They've just begun the construction process.
They have four locations currently, including their trailer. The Deerfield Beach outpost will be their fifth. Expect to find them at 1101 S Powerline Rd.
Yolo Korean BBQ
A new all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ spot is coming to Tamarac by way of owner Ray Park. Park, who is Korean-American, shared with FFBW that they are amidst construction now, and plan to have a soft opening in late May or early June.
Park expects the concept to grow into 10 additional locations in the next five years. They will serve all-you-can-eat dishes, along with a la cart options like wagyu and Kobe beef. They will also specialize in Korean style cocktails and other beverages. Expect to find the concept at 6800 N University Dr.
Vault at Old Town Pompano
A new concept is coming to the Pompano Beach area. The Vault at Old Town Pompano appears to be an upscale, atmospheric restaurant serving food and drinks. According to their website, they will open this fall. Expect to “eat, drink, and escape.”
They will be located 61 NE 1st St.
Red Velvet Kitchen & Grill
Red Velvet Kitchen & Grill is moving into Oakland Park, according to owner Ebony Nichols. The concept will open at 2759 W Oakland Park Blvd. The building appears to have been a former Pizza Hut location.
When they will open is unknown as of now. Check back for updates soon.
Ocean Deli
A new concept is planning to establish itself in Deerfield Beach, according to a filing with DBPR. Joseph Tomasino of THE PASTA BUCKET, LLC is behind the filing and is indicated to be the owner. FFBW reached out to Tomasino for details and has not heard back as of yet. Check back for details.
Expect to find the restaurant at 50 S Ocean Dr.
Ice Cream Box
The dessert concept Ice Cream Box will open in Pembroke Pines, according to owner Jean Armand. Armand shared with FFBW that he is waiting on the city to approve his licensing, and he will open shortly thereafter.
Expect to find the new dessert shop at 1461 N Palm Ave.
PALM BEACH COUNTY
That’s a Wrap Sandwich Company & Juice Bar
Boca Raton will soon be home to a new That’s a Wrap location, according to co-franchisee Daniel Morales. The store is under construction, Morales shared with FFBW. He didn’t have other details to offer as of now.
The brand, which is known for serving delicious sandwiches and juices, is already established in South Florida with two other locations. You’ll find this unit at 20423 FL-7 f 9.
