BRUNSWICK, GA – El Rey Tequilas Bar & Grill plans to open targeting the first weeks of August at 36 Canal Road Plaza, Brunswick, GA 31525, co-owner Arturo Sanchez told Business Debut in a phone interview. Sanchez owns the restaurant with partner Luis Montalvo. The space previously housed The Hangout Grill.

What to Expect

Sanchez described El Rey Tequilas Bar & Grill as a full-service Mexican restaurant and bar with a sports bar atmosphere. He said the team bought the closing restaurant and will keep a similar layout with some modifications.

The menu will feature Mexican dishes with fast service, along with burgers, wings, and other bar-style items.

“We will have a good variety of choices for different palates,” Sanchez told Business Debut. He said the menu will include more traditional Mexican options for guests who seek them, as well as Tex-Mex and American dishes.

The bar program will feature a wide selection of cocktails, beer and wine. “We want people that want to come have an old fashioned or a Manhattan, and if they also just want to kick back and drink a beer, that can be the place for them,” Sanchez shared with Business Debut.

Sanchez also is considering late-night programming on Fridays and Saturdays. He mentioned potential salsa nights or karaoke as options he is exploring.

Sanchez wants guests from different backgrounds to feel comfortable. “We want to bring a fresh vibe, a little bit different than what you are used to seeing in the restaurants in Brunswick,” Sanchez told Business Debut.

Opening Timeline

El Rey Tequilas Bar & Grill is targeting the first weeks of August for opening, Sanchez said. He cited ongoing permits and final preparations as next steps before setting a firm date.

Hours

Sanchez said the current plan is to open seven days a week, Monday through Sunday. Tentative weekday hours are 11 a.m. — 10:30 p.m. He said weekend restaurant hours will likely run until 11 p.m., with the bar possibly staying open later during special late-night events.
