DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii is opening in Daytona Beach, just feet away from the sand at 821 E International Speedway Blvd, Daytona Beach, FL 32118, co-franchisee Jessie Ponder told Business Debut. The shop is owned by Ponder and her mother, Terri Slager.

Ponder said the team is working through construction permitting and contractor selection. Ponder said the storefront sits on International Speedway Boulevard near the "World's Most Famous Beach" sign, within a short walk of the ocean.

This will be the first Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii location for the pair. They are contracted for three locations in Volusia County, with future sites to be announced.

What to Expect

Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii focuses on coffee with Hawaiian roots, including beans tied to the brand’s origin story involving donkeys that carried coffee down mountain trails.

"They created the name, the Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, after these amazing bad ass donkeys that carried the beans," Ponder told Business Debut. The brand’s atmosphere draws on a beach and Hawaii-inspired theme. "We fell in love with the brand because we thought it was so cool with the donkeys," Ponder told Business Debut.

Expect high quality coffee with a beach-y setting. Cold coffee will be a focus for the Daytona Beach shop. Ponder highlighted iced drinks built with frozen coffee cubes rather than water-based ice.

"We freeze coffee cubes and put those in our iced lattes," she said. "So as it melts, it's still more coffee." She also pointed to coffee coolers, the brand’s blended frozen coffee drink. Ponder described the cooler as smooth and creamy, customizable with different flavors, and said it currently includes flavors with marshmallow and chocolate elements. "The coffee cooler is one of my favorites," she said, adding that it has the most caffeine among the menu’s drinks.

The Daytona Beach location is planned as a walk-up shop without indoor seating. Ponder said the building sits "as far as you can get before you start touching the water," under the large beach gateway sign.

She expects the storefront to serve customers walking from the sand, nearby condos and the surrounding International Speedway Boulevard corridor. She anticipates the location helps introduce the brand to both local residents and visitors.

Opening Timeline

This location is aiming for a soft opening by the end of the year. Additional Volusia County locations are planned, but Ponder said those sites remain under evaluation and are to be announced. She also said they are exploring a potential coffee trailer to serve events around the county.
