Cafe and Taproom Coming to New Smyrna Beach
Bandbox Cafe & Taproom is targeting a spring opening on Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL — Bandbox Cafe & Taproom, a multi-concept cafe and low-ABV taproom from owner Kevin Zepf, is targeting a spring opening at 216 Flagler Ave., New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169. Zepf told Business Debut the project is the next evolution of Bandbox, a concept that first launched in Orlando as a fully nonalcoholic speakeasy.
Business Debut learned of this story first from What Now.
What to Expect
The New Smyrna Beach location brings together three connected concepts under one roof: a daytime coffee shop, a self-pour taproom, and a food program supported by the adjacent restaurant, Kind Hawaiian Kitchen. Zepf described the new Bandbox as “more of a coastal retreat,” shifting away from the speakeasy model while keeping its roots in mindful drinking and community-focused gathering.
The taproom is designed as an open, walkable space with indoor seating, a wraparound patio shaded by large oak trees, and French doors that connect the bar, game room, and outdoor areas. Live music is planned on a regular basis, along with interactive elements like a photo booth and electronic dartboards.
Menu and Vision
Bandbox originally opened in Orlando as Central Florida’s first spirit-free speakeasy, offering nonalcoholic cocktails, beer, wine, and functional beverages. “We were fully nonalcoholic,” Zepf told Business Debut, noting the concept operated for about two and a half years before closing in September 2024 to regroup and find a better long-term home.
In New Smyrna Beach, Bandbox will expand its offerings. Guests can expect nonalcoholic craft cocktails, kombucha, CBD and THC beverages, and cold brew coffee, many available on draft. The taproom will also offer select low-ABV options, including draft beer, draft wine, and agave wine-based cocktails.
Food will be available via direct-to-table ordering from Kind Hawaiian Kitchen next door. The menu will include shareable items like charcuterie boxes, ahi tuna nachos, smoked mahi fish dip, sliders, and dips, along with heartier Hawaiian-inspired plates such as teriyaki chicken, pulled pork, ahi tuna steak, and shrimp dishes.

Zepf said the team is targeting a spring opening, likely April or May, with construction expected to begin soon after final plans are approved by the city.
