ST. AUGUSTINE, FL — Blackfly, a long-running St. Augustine restaurant known for its community-driven bar scene and coastal-focused menu, is planning a relocation to 410 Anastasia Blvd, St. Augustine, FL 32080, with a target opening in early March 2026, owner Nicholas Massie told Business Debut.

The restaurant will move roughly two and a half blocks east from its longtime home at 108 Anastasia Blvd, where Blackfly has operated since June 20, 2012. The move allows the ownership group to transition into a larger, newer space that they own, while remaining rooted in the same neighborhood.

What to Expect

Blackfly will close briefly (targeting less than two weeks) to make the transition between locations. Massie said the goal is for the new space to feel just as familiar as the original, despite the physical upgrades.

“I like to say our mission statement is we are determined to make the feel of the new space feel as quaint and comfortable as our current location,” Massie told Business Debut.

The most notable change is an expanded bar area, nearly doubling the size of the current bar, which Massie describes as the heart of the restaurant’s community atmosphere.

The menu will remain largely unchanged at opening, featuring upscale coastal dining with an emphasis on fresh, local seafood sourced primarily from Florida and nearby Atlantic waters. Blackfly also offers brick-oven pizzas cooked in a Woodstone oven, along with steaks, pastas, vegetarian dishes, and an extensive appetizer selection.

Massie said keeping the menu, staff, and systems consistent is intentional. “We don’t want to make too many changes to what we do just before we open,” he said, noting that the space itself will be the primary difference guests notice.

Ownership

Blackfly has six partners: Nicholas Massie, Cindy Stangby, Vaughn Cochran, Jean Cochran, Doug Bunnell, and Charlene Bunnell. Stangby is also the owner of Collage Restaurant in downtown St. Augustine.

Cochran, a marine-based artist and former member of Jimmy Buffett’s original Coral Reefer band, created the artwork displayed throughout the restaurant. Massie said the art is a defining part of the space and is available for purchase, adding another layer to the restaurant’s identity.

Space and Private Events

The new location will introduce outdoor patio seating, as well as expanded private dining options. Blackfly plans to offer two banquet spaces for events such as rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, and corporate gatherings, including a retractable wall system that can divide the dining room and provide patio access for private functions.

Opening Timeline

The team is targeting an early March 2026 reopening following the move.

Hours

Blackfly will continue operating seven days a week. Bar service begins at 4 p.m., with full menu service available at the bar at that time and dining room seating beginning at 5 p.m. Reservation cutoffs remain 8:45 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Community Focus

At the close of the interview, Massie emphasized Blackfly’s role beyond food and drink. He shared that the restaurant is deeply involved with local education, including participation on Flagler College’s hospitality and tourism management board and the culinary board at the St. Johns County Technical High School, helping students gain hands-on experience in the industry.
