OKEECHOBEE, FL — Backwoods Billiards is relocating to 413 SW Park St, Okeechobee, FL 34972 and plans to reopen on November 21. Manager Earle Strickland told Business Debut the move brings the long-running pool hall closer to downtown traffic in a more usable, efficient space.

The new location follows eight years of operation at the previous location. The business is owned by Christie Strickland, Earle's wife.

What to Expect

Backwoods Billiards will reopen as a pool hall with 14 tables and a full food menu. Strickland said the new space is slightly smaller in total square footage but offers more usable room, for guests and pool play, than the former location.

The business will continue to host league play Sunday through Thursday evenings.

Strickland emphasized that the hall is family-friendly and focused on safety. “We are a family-friendly environment. Kids are welcome,” he told Business Debut, adding that respectful teens are allowed without a guardian as long as they respect the property and other customers. He described Backwoods Billiards as a “drama-free pool hall."

Backwoods Billiards will continue to serve what Strickland described as some of the best bar-style food in the area. “I’ve heard it repeatedly from my customers: I have the best burgers and best steaks around,” he told Business Debut.

The full menu will feature burgers, steaks, chef salads including ribeye chef salad, chicken tenders, chicken wings, chicken nuggets, mozzarella sticks, fries, potato wedges, sweet potato fries, popcorn, nachos, “garbage fries,” and pizzas. Strickland noted that the kitchen uses air fryers instead of traditional deep fryers.

Opening Timeline

Backwoods Billiards closed its previous location on November 1 ahead of the move downtown. Strickland said the new Park Street location is targeting a November 21 opening. He said the team views the downtown address as an opportunity to build a stronger lunch and daytime clientele once full hours are restored, thanks to easier access for workers on limited breaks.

Hours

At opening, Backwoods Billiards will operate with evening hours only and open to the public at 5 p.m. League play will continue Sunday through Thursday starting at 7:30 p.m. Once fully operational, Strickland said they plan to return to their regular schedule of 11 a.m.–midnight six days a week and 4 p.m.–midnight on Sundays.
