Village Wayside Bar & Grille is Re-Opening

Opening: Late winter, likely February–March, as build-out progresses.

Address: 111 Grovewood Rd, Asheville, NC 28804.

What to expect: A standalone 1917 building with swooping roof and pebble walls; ~60 seats inside plus ~35 on the patio. On the Grovewood Village campus by The Omni Grove Park Inn.

Menu highlights: Streamlined take on the longtime 44-item menu; guest favorites return, including the family coconut cream pie (“Big Mama”). Seasonal specials like Fat Tuesday pierogies and St. Patrick’s corned beef & cabbage.

Background: Original Biltmore Village location (opened 2009) was destroyed by Hurricane Helene flooding; owners Mark & Polly Harding carry forward the “reliable, honest food at honest prices” ethos.

Hours: TBA; plan is morning coffee/pastry, then lunch and dinner six or seven days a week.

Bev’s Steak Opens in Black Mountain

Opened: Soft opened the weekend before Thanksgiving.

What to expect: Moody, basement space in a circa-1914 building with exposed brick; ~50 indoor seats. Stairs from Cherry St. plus accessible side entry.

Menu highlights: Creative steakhouse with locally sourced 100% NC Wagyu (Wilders Farm) and occasional game meats; full bar with a wine list heavy on bold reds and French selections, plus cocktails, beer, and NA options.

Background: Chef Jake Whitman and partner Ali Whitman lead the project; the name honors Jake’s grandmother, Beverly. Chef Whitman’s most recent role was Chef Partner at The Pure & Proper in Black Mountain.

Tommy’s Restaurant Under New Ownership in Weaverville

Timeline: Ownership change closed November 4; kitchen remodel about 25% complete, targeting completion by end of March.

What to expect: Restaurant stays open throughout the kitchen remodel. Work proceeds in phases—one half of the two-part kitchen at a time—to avoid interrupting service.
